Dr. L. R. Yadav
Industrialist turned educationist — three and a half decades spent building, first in industry and then in education, on a single conviction: that the right to education and the right to employment belong together.
From the Factory Floor to the University Gate
Dr. L. R. Yadav began in industry and ended up building a university. Over more than two decades of industrial leadership he saw the same gap from the employer’s side of the desk again and again — graduates who had been taught a great deal and prepared for very little. The institutions he went on to found were his answer to it.
The work started in 1988 with ALARD Industries Limited, and the education followed the industry rather than the other way round. In 1999 he established the ALARD Charitable Trust to carry social welfare, education and community development work. From there the group built steadily outward: the ALARD Institute of Management Sciences in 2005, the ALARD College of Pharmacy in 2006, and the ALARD College of Engineering and Management in 2009.
School education came next — ALARD Public School in 2013, and the ALARD High School & Junior College of Arts, Commerce & Science in 2018 — giving the group a continuous path from the early years through to professional qualification. In 2024 that path was brought together under one multidisciplinary roof as ALARD University, Pune, where he serves as Founder and Chancellor across its schools of Engineering & Technology, Business Management, Pharmacy, Health & Bioscience, and Law.
His own qualifications run across both worlds he has worked in — B.Sc., BE, ME, PGDM, MBA and a Ph.D. — and the curriculum he argues for reflects that: experience-driven teaching, hands-on learning and real industry exposure, so that what is learned in a classroom survives contact with a workplace.
He puts the purpose plainly in his message to students: to make the right to education a cherished birthright and the right to employment an empowering realisation — to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and to cultivate skills that flourish beyond the academy. It is a conviction that sits closely alongside this Initiative’s own, and one reason his association with it matters. The Initiative’s Founder, Dr. Satyen, serves on the Governing Council of ALARD University.
